Current Job -- Enterprise Manager
Since April 2006 Academic Enterprise Manager within the School of Engineering with the following responsibilities.
- Developing open two way communication between the School of Engineering and manufacturing organisations, local support organisations such as business link and the DTI
- Manage sales opportunities for consulting and research revenue income
- Develop a pipe line of KTP opportunities and sales
- Help support student placements and employability activity
- Manage the Resettlement Programme
- Develop and deliver short public courses
Relevant Previous Experience
March 2003 Now Worked as an independent consultant ( Colin Wilson Consulting) key projects;-
- Set up a SAP Automotive Centre of Excellence for Cap Gemini in Waldorf Germany.
- Wrote and Directed a short movie on the automotive supply chain
- I was a judge on the Automotive News European Logistics Awards
- Worked with a supplier of factory automation systems to develop their new family of products for which they were awarded the Business Link Essex In Bloom Innovation Award
1990 2003 Cap Gemini During this time I worked as a management consultant and had the following responsibilities;
- Manager of the ERP consultancy Team
- Manager of Manufacturing Best Practice Consultancy
- Global Account manager for Lilly Industries (pharmaceuticals)
- Project Manager for the development and implementation of a European wide manufacturing execution system for a major steel manufacturer in six plants
- Project managed an Automotive ERP system in eight sites in Europe.
- Project managed an ERP implementation in seven sites in Europe for an electronics company.
- 1998 2003 global manager of manufacturing and supply chain in the Cap Gemini Global Automotive Centre of Excellence where I was responsible for;
- The design of a Manufacturing Execution System for a large General Motors plant in Detroit.
- Design and implementation of CKD systems in Germany and Indonesia
- Designed a global survey on Lean Manufacturing in Automotive this survey was conducted By Gartner in the USA, Europe and Asia and published by Cap Gemini
- I organised a major conference to the leaders of the Global Automotive Industry, This was a three day annual event by invitation only to senior managers from the industry
- I was part of the UK Governments Three Day Car Research Programme
- I am media trained and I appeared on a live Sky TV Automotive Channel interview on the future of the automotive industry.
1986-1990 Computer Management Group (CMG) where I worked as a management consultant some key projects include;
- Managed the development of CMGs consultancy methodology
- Run and delivered a number of education programmes both client based and internally
- I was trained by Eli Goldratt (author of the Goal) in the theory of constraints and managed a team of OPT consultants
- Managed a number of MRP implementations in the UK and mainland Europe
1972 -1986 During this period I had senior management roles in a number of manufacturing companies.

I have published a number of papers in ISATA on Automotive Manufacturing
I have spoken on Automotive, Pharmaceuticals and Supply Chain at a number of international Conferences in Europe and the USA.
Research Interests
- Optimisation software for the sequencing of complex manufacturing assembly lines such as automotive.
- The use of lean techniques to provide benefits to organisations by reducing their carbon footprint and reducing risks to the environment.
